Modes of Administration

It is no secret that technology is changing health care — from the way physicians practice and pharmaceutical companies develop new drugs, to how patients receive care. At Optum™, we put the best technology to work for you by offering a variety of ways for patients to complete health surveys.

In just the past few years, legacy IT systems have been integrated with the very latest software. This has opened the door to electronic medical records, patient information portals and many other technologies. Optum™ leverages these changes to offer greater flexibility for survey completion.

We are proud to have been the first company to apply computerized adaptive testing (CAT) technology to health surveys online. Now we offer a variety of ways patients can complete our health surveys, called different modes of administration.

Our modes of administration are HIPAA compliant and include:

Fixed Form
The fixed form administration allows patients to complete a paper-based version of our health surveys.

Interviewer script
The interviewer script administration is available for many of our health surveys and contains actual scripts for interviewers to follow while administering the health survey to a patient. This is ideal when patients are unable to complete the survey on their own.

Online
The online administration allows patients to complete our health surveys online from any location where Internet access is available. We offer two online options — standard versions available on the Optum site www.amihealthy.com and fully customized versions that act as an extension of a client's existing web presence. Once an online health survey is submitted, the data is loaded directly into the www.amihealthy.com database for scientifically valid scoring, interpretation and reporting in real time, eliminating the need for time-consuming data entry.

Fax
The fax administration allows patients to complete a specialized, paper-based version of our health surveys. Completed surveys are faxed to a centralized server at Optum. The data is then loaded directly into our www.amihealthy.com database for scientifically valid scoring, interpretation and reporting in real time. This eliminates the need for time-consuming data entry. This solution is ideal for organizations with limited web presence, Internet access or technical infrastructure.

eForm
The eForm administration uses an Adobe® Acrobat® electronic version of the fixed form of the health survey. Surveys administered via eForm can be completed online from any location where Internet access is available. The eForm mode is ideal when response burden is a concern, as it keeps all questions contained to one page.

Smartphone
On the go and require scored data with fast turnaround? The smartphone administration is for you. If handheld devices are part of your organization’s everyday workflow and you have a high degree of interaction with a patient population, then the smartphone solution will suit your needs. Data from completed surveys is then transmitted via the Internet to the Optum Smart Measurement System database for scientifically valid scoring, interpretation and reporting. Summary scores are calculated immediately and returned to the device for review. In addition, reports are available in real time on www.amihealthy.com.

Tablet/kiosk
Your clients can submit online surveys if their tablet or kiosk is Internet enabled, operating similarly to a laptop. We provide licensed customers with fixed forms for programming of single-item presentation on tablet or similar device. Customers contract directly with an ePRO vendor for software development.

Interactive voice response (IVR) – via telephone
The IVR administration is an effective alternative in health programs and disease management. Patients can access our health surveys via telephone with a toll free phone number and access code. After a brief introduction, the system proceeds into a series of dialog interactions with the patient to gather answers to the survey questions. Information from the patient is collected using speech recognition and/or touch-tone technology. Once the survey is completed, the data is loaded directly into our www.amihealthy.com database for scientifically valid scoring, interpretation and reporting in real time.
